What is the difference between an audio stream and a podcast?

An audio stream is an audio file that is held on a server and plays almost as soon as you click on the hyperlink to it.
You have to have an active internet connection whilst you are listening to the file as it is downloaded to you PC in small chunks whilst you are listening.
If your internet connection cannot keep up with the download of the file you will encounter momentary silences whilst the file "buffers".

A podcast is an audio file that you have to download to your PC before you can listen to it.
The advantage of the podcast over an audio stream is that you could download what you want to listen to, copy that file to your mobile device and then listen to that audio whenever you wish.
The advantage of the audio stream over the podcast is that the audio starts at once, nothing is downloaded to your PC but you must have a fast enough internet connection to stream thre audio file.

If there is a particular piece of audio you want to hear and neither streaming or podcasting is working for you then please get in touch by e-mailing studio@rallyfm.net
